MARKETBUCKS
MarketBucks is a new program in partnership with Esquimalt Farmers' Market. This program aims to support black communities in accessing fresh, locally-grown, nutrient-dense produce.
Thanks to a private donor we are putting at service of our communities the Marketbucks initiative.
The MarketBucks initiative is a farm-fresh program aiming to support Black communities in accessing fresh, locally-grown, nutrient-dense produce. Democratizing the access to locally grown food is based on reciprocity, dignity, and justice. Laying foundations to re-envision the participation of communities in certain spaces, in this case, the Farmers’ Market.
48 African descent families/individuals who sign up will receive $50 worth MarketBucks to visit the market. MarketBucks are the market currency and can be used to purchase any product at the market just like cash, credit, or debit. They can be used at both the Monday and Thursday evening markets.
Our Programming will be tailored to meet the mobility and individual needs of the participants.
Esquimalt Farmers’ Market acknowledges that they operate on Lək̓ʷəŋən and Xwsepsum lands (Songhees and Esquimalt Nations). This organization in partnership with grassroots collectives is creating pathways to better understand their role within the local food systems and reconcile Indigenous food and cultural values with society at large.
WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS SEASON!
