Community Resource Guide: Community Land Trusts and Economics in Victoria, BC

Food is land. Land is culture. Land is more than just soil beneath our feet, it’s a living, breathing source of connection. It feeds us, holds our memories, shapes our identities, and carries the potential for economic freedom and community well-being.

In today’s legal system, land is treated as “real property,” something that can be owned, sold, and controlled. But for many communities, especially those who have faced displacement, exclusion, and systemic inequality—accessing land remains a deep challenge. This resource aims to plant the seed for reclaiming our relationship with land, through models like Community Land Trusts that center collective ownership, stewardship, and cultural continuity.

Let’s reimagine what’s possible when land is held in community care. Let’s return to the truth that land has always been ours to protect, to nurture, and to heal with.
